By Deepak Sharma, BootcampGuide. Every salary figure below was read off the source's own page on 29 October 2026, with the sample size and update date it shows. We quote each source separately and do not average them together. Take-home pay is our own arithmetic under the FY 2025-26 new tax regime, and we show the assumptions. See sources.
The average data analyst salary in India is ₹5.8 lakh to ₹6.3 lakh a year in base pay. PayScale puts it at ₹5,78,578 from 2,122 salary profiles (updated 5 October 2026), and Indeed at ₹6,25,285 from 526 salaries (updated 19 October 2026). That is about ₹48,000 to ₹52,000 a month before deductions, or roughly ₹44,000 to ₹47,000 in hand. Freshers typically start at ₹3 lakh to ₹5 lakh a year. Senior data analysts average ₹9.3 lakh to ₹11.2 lakh. At product companies and global banks, Levels.fyi's median for data analysts in India is ₹14.7 lakh in total pay.
Below are the figures by experience, by month in hand, by company, by city and against the roles analysts usually move into. We also explain why one salary site says ₹5.8 lakh and another says ₹14.7 lakh, and what actually moves an analyst's pay.
Data analyst salary in India at a glance
| Level | Salary per year | Per month, before deductions | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fresher (under 1 year) | ₹4,13,462 average total pay | about ₹34,500 | PayScale, 576 salaries |
| Entry-level job postings | ₹5,15,010 average base | about ₹42,900 | Indeed, job ads |
| Data analyst, 1 to 4 years | ₹5,69,651 average total pay | about ₹47,500 | PayScale, 1,406 salaries |
| Data analyst, all levels | ₹5,78,578 (PayScale) to ₹6,25,285 (Indeed) average base | about ₹48,200 to ₹52,100 | PayScale 2,122; Indeed 526 |
| Senior data analyst | ₹9,29,482 (Indeed) to ₹11,15,762 (PayScale) average base | about ₹77,500 to ₹93,000 | Indeed 32; PayScale 297 |
| Analytics manager | ₹22,24,577 average base | about ₹1,85,400 | PayScale, 72 profiles |
| Product companies and global banks (median) | ₹14,72,131 total pay | about ₹1,22,700 | Levels.fyi, 395 data points |
Sources read 29 October 2026. "Base" excludes bonus; "total pay" includes it. Monthly figures are the annual figure divided by 12 (our arithmetic).
Key takeaway: Experience alone moves a data analyst's pay slowly. What moves it is the title and the employer. At the same one to four years of experience, PayScale shows Senior Data Analysts earning ₹9,28,798 against ₹5,69,651 for Data Analysts, about 63% more. The median at Amazon, JPMorgan or Google is three to eight times the median at TCS.
Data analyst salary for freshers in India
A fresher data analyst in India should plan on a starting salary of ₹3 lakh to ₹5 lakh a year. That is about ₹25,000 to ₹42,000 a month before deductions, or ₹21,800 to ₹36,500 in hand. Here is everything we found for someone with no experience:
| Source | Figure | Based on |
|---|---|---|
| PayScale, Data Analyst, under 1 year | ₹4,13,462 average total pay | 576 salaries reported by employees |
| Indeed, Entry Level Data Analyst | ₹5,15,010 average base | Job postings over 36 months |
| PayScale, Data Analyst, 10th percentile | ₹2,91,000 base | 2,122 profiles |
| Indeed, low end of national range | ₹3,07,913 base | 526 salaries |
| PayScale, Senior Data Analyst, under 1 year | ₹6,00,000 average total pay | 14 salaries (thin) |
| Levels.fyi, TCS, C1 (entry grade) | ₹6,26,803 median total pay | Self-reported, sample not shown |
Two figures need a warning. Indeed also lists a "Junior Data Analyst" average of ₹2,01,341, far below its own entry-level figure. It most likely reflects trainee and internship-style postings, so we do not use it as a starting salary. At the other end, salary tables from training institutes often promise freshers ₹6 lakh to ₹8 lakh. No salary dataset we checked shows the typical fresher earning that much, although a fresher who joins a product company or a bank's analytics team can.
The fresher market is also improving. Naukri's JobSpeak report for March 2026 found hiring of professionals with zero to three years' experience up 16% for the year, the fastest growth of any experience band.
Data analyst salary by experience
No source we could read publishes a clean year-by-year band for data analysts in India. PayScale comes closest by splitting each job title by experience. Reading the titles side by side gives the career ladder most analysts climb:
| Title | Under 1 year | 1 to 4 years | Average, all experience | Profiles |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Data Analyst | ₹4,13,462 | ₹5,69,651 | ₹5,78,578 | 2,122 |
| Senior Data Analyst | ₹6,00,000 (14 salaries) | ₹9,28,798 | ₹11,15,762 | 297 |
| Analytics Manager | ₹7,00,000 (6 salaries) | ₹12,74,510 (11 salaries) | ₹22,24,577 | 72 |
PayScale. Experience columns are average total pay; the "all experience" column is average base. Data Analyst updated 5 October 2026, Senior Data Analyst 28 September 2026, Analytics Manager 25 September 2026.
Data analyst salary after 5 years
By about five years, most analysts who have stayed in the field carry a Senior title. That puts them in the ₹9 lakh to ₹12 lakh range: Indeed's Senior Data Analyst average is ₹9,29,482 (range ₹4,71,941 to ₹18,30,603), and PayScale's is ₹11,15,762. This is our reading of the title data, not a published five-year band. Analysts who are still titled "Data Analyst" at five years typically earn less, because the title, not the years, is what the pay follows.
Further up, analytics managers average ₹22.2 lakh in base pay on PayScale, with the 10th to 90th percentile spanning ₹10 lakh to ₹40 lakh. PayScale's Senior Data Analyst 90th percentile is ₹20 lakh.
Data analyst salary per month: what you actually take home
Salary sites quote CTC or base pay a year. What lands in your bank account each month is lower, because CTC usually includes the employer's provident fund and you also pay your own PF, professional tax and, above ₹12 lakh of taxable income, income tax. Here is the monthly in-hand pay for typical data analyst CTCs:
| CTC per year | CTC ÷ 12 | Income tax (new regime) | In hand per month | Typical for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ₹3 lakh | ₹25,000 | Nil | about ₹21,800 | Low-end fresher offer |
| ₹4 lakh | ₹33,300 | Nil | about ₹29,100 | Fresher |
| ₹5 lakh | ₹41,700 | Nil | about ₹36,500 | Fresher at a good offer |
| ₹6 lakh | ₹50,000 | Nil | about ₹43,800 | Average data analyst |
| ₹8 lakh | ₹66,700 | Nil | about ₹58,500 | 3 to 4 years, or senior at a services firm |
| ₹10 lakh | ₹83,300 | Nil | about ₹73,100 | Senior data analyst |
| ₹12 lakh | ₹1,00,000 | Nil | about ₹87,800 | Senior at a product company |
| ₹15 lakh | ₹1,25,000 | ₹83,460 a year | about ₹1,02,800 | Levels.fyi median |
| ₹20 lakh | ₹1,66,700 | ₹1,67,440 a year | about ₹1,32,500 | Lead or analytics manager |
Our arithmetic. Assumptions: basic pay is 50% of CTC; employer and employee each pay 12% of basic into PF, with the employer's share inside CTC; professional tax ₹2,400 a year; new tax regime for FY 2025-26 with the ₹75,000 standard deduction, the section 87A rebate (no tax up to ₹12 lakh of taxable income, with marginal relief just above it) and 4% cess; no gratuity, variable pay or other deductions. Your payslip will differ if your employer caps PF at ₹1,800 a month (in-hand rises) or counts gratuity inside CTC (in-hand falls).
Because of the ₹12 lakh rebate, a data analyst on any CTC up to about ₹12.5 lakh pays no income tax under the new regime. On a ₹6 lakh CTC, PF and professional tax are the only deductions, and about ₹43,800 reaches you each month.
Data analyst salary by company
Employer makes the biggest difference of all. Levels.fyi, which collects verified and self-reported offers, shows these medians for data analysts in India:

Levels.fyi company pages for Data Analyst, India, updated 29 October 2026. Sample sizes are not shown and are small for most companies.
Read the table as a ranking of employers rather than as an offer you should expect. Levels.fyi's users lean towards experienced people at tech and finance firms, and several company medians sit below that company's own level medians: TCS's overall ₹5 lakh is below its entry-grade C1 figure of ₹6.3 lakh, and Deloitte's is below its L1. The pattern still holds across every source. Global banks and big tech pay data analysts the most, then Big Four firms and consultancies, then the large IT services companies.
The Levels.fyi overview page for India also ranks Walmart (₹41,61,615) and FedEx (₹26,89,413) among the top payers. It lists Optum at ₹25,42,951, but Optum's own company page shows ₹10,54,797, with GL26 at ₹18,17,377 and GL27 at ₹24,40,853, so treat Optum's figure as uncertain. Indeed, which works from job advertisements rather than reported pay, shows the highest average data analyst salaries at Cargill (₹17,80,000), Commonwealth Bank of Australia (₹17,70,000), Salesforce (₹17,66,667), Experian (₹17,50,000) and IDFC FIRST Bank (₹17,20,000).
IT services, Big Four and product companies
At TCS, Cognizant and Capgemini the entry grades (C1, L1, A4) sit at ₹4.4 lakh to ₹6.3 lakh, close to the national fresher figures above. The big jumps come with promotion: TCS's C3A grade reaches ₹20.4 lakh and Cognizant's L2 ₹14.4 lakh. Deloitte and KPMG start higher, at about ₹8 lakh to ₹10 lakh. At Amazon, an L4 data analyst's median total pay is ₹28.5 lakh. Moving from services to a bank's or a product company's analytics team is the single biggest raise most analysts will see.
Data analyst salary by city

| Ahmedabad | ₹4,58,770 | 9 | 6 August 2026 |
| Chennai | ₹4,56,594 | 77 | 13 October 2026 |
Indeed India city pages for Data Analyst, read 29 October 2026. Indeed's figures come from job advertisements. Noida, Gurugram and Hyderabad are from Indeed's national top-cities list, which does not show sample sizes.
Bengaluru pays the most: its average is about 24% above Indeed's national ₹6,25,285 (our arithmetic), and the NCR cities of Noida and Gurugram are close behind. Chennai's average is 27% below the national figure, according to Indeed. That gap partly reflects the mix of employers posting jobs in each city, not only the city itself. The AIM Research salary study for 2024, which covers all data and analytics professionals rather than only analysts, found medians of ₹14.7 lakh to ₹14.8 lakh in Chennai, Pune and Hyderabad alike.
Kerala: data analyst salaries in Kerala are lower and the samples are thin. Indeed shows ₹4,74,830 in Kochi (6 salaries, last updated June 2025), ₹2,99,391 in Ernakulam and ₹2,88,839 in Calicut. Kolkata (₹3,36,711) and Delhi (₹2,92,758) also appear on Indeed, but their pages were last updated in October 2023 and January 2024, so we have left them out of the table.
Data analyst salary vs business analyst, data scientist and data engineer
Data analysts usually move into one of four neighbouring roles. On PayScale, with every title read on the same day, they compare like this:
| Role | Average base | Under 1 year | 1 to 4 years | Profiles |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Data Analyst | ₹5,78,578 | ₹4,13,462 | ₹5,69,651 | 2,122 |
| Business Analyst | ₹6,78,371 | ₹5,16,542 | – | 293 |
| Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst | ₹7,09,837 | ₹3,93,939 | – | 154 |
| Data Engineer | ₹9,85,309 | ₹5,18,398 | ₹8,11,562 | 1,143 |
| Data Scientist | ₹10,13,012 | ₹5,95,255 | ₹10,00,641 | 1,122 |
PayScale; experience columns are average total pay. A dash means PayScale did not show a figure for that band.
At the start of a career the five roles pay within about ₹2 lakh of each other. By one to four years, data scientists earn about 76% more than data analysts and data engineers about 42% more (our arithmetic). Business analyst and BI analyst pay stays closer to data analyst pay. The extra skills explain the gap: data scientists add statistics and machine learning, and data engineers add pipelines and cloud platforms. For many analysts those are the next things to learn, not a different career.
Which skills raise a data analyst's salary?
Some salary guides claim fixed premiums, such as "Python adds 20 to 35%". None of the sources we checked publishes data for a figure like that. PayScale lists SQL, Excel, Python, Power BI and Tableau as the skills data analysts report, but shows no premium for them. What the data does show:
- SQL, Excel and one BI tool (Power BI or Tableau) are the baseline, not a premium. They get you the ₹4 lakh to ₹6 lakh job.
- Python, statistics and cloud data tools are the bridge to higher-paid titles. The 42% to 76% gap between data analysts and data engineers or data scientists at one to four years is, in effect, the market price of those skills.
- Domain knowledge pays where the money is. The best-paying employers in the company table are banks and payment firms (JPMorgan, Barclays, American Express) and e-commerce and tech (Amazon, Walmart, Google, Uber). Finance, risk or product analytics experience is what those teams hire for.
- AI skills are the growth area. Naukri found AI and machine learning hiring up 45% in FY 2025-26, and up 55% in the ₹50 lakh-plus pay band. "AI data analyst" is not yet a separate title in any salary dataset. The AIM study found the median gap between data analytics and generative AI professionals in 2024 was only ₹50,000 a year.
Highest data analyst salary in India
The highest data analyst salaries in India are at global tech companies and banks. On Levels.fyi, Amazon's L5 data analysts have a median total pay of ₹50,21,745 and Uber's L4 ₹43,32,481. Levels.fyi's 90th percentile for all data analysts in India is ₹32,27,342. Among sources built on broader samples, PayScale's 90th percentile is ₹10 lakh for data analysts and ₹20 lakh for senior data analysts, and the top of Indeed's senior range is ₹18,30,603. Pay above ₹20 lakh is real, but it is concentrated at a few dozen employers and usually comes with a senior or lead title.
Why salary sites disagree
Search for data analyst salary in India and you will see averages from ₹5.8 lakh to ₹14.7 lakh. Each source is measuring something different:
- Base pay versus total pay. PayScale's headline is base salary. Levels.fyi reports total compensation, including bonus and stock. At Amazon, stock and bonus add about ₹6.7 lakh to a median base of ₹33.3 lakh.
- Who reports. PayScale's 2,122 profiles come from employees across all kinds of employers. Levels.fyi's 395 data points lean heavily towards tech and finance multinationals, so its median, ₹14.7 lakh, is about 2.5 times PayScale's (our arithmetic). Indeed builds its averages from job advertisements, which show what employers offer rather than what people earn after raises.
- Thin samples. Kochi on Indeed rests on 6 salaries and Ahmedabad on 9. PayScale's Analytics Manager figure for one to four years rests on 11.
- Stale pages. Indeed's Kolkata and Delhi pages have not been updated since 2023 and early 2024. One competing article we checked carries a publication date in 2027.
- Sites we could not check. AmbitionBox, Glassdoor and Naukri block automated reading, and parts of their data need a login. Their figures circulate widely on other blogs, but we could not confirm them on the source page on the day we checked, so we have not quoted them here. They are worth checking yourself. AmbitionBox in particular has large samples for individual Indian companies.
The practical rule: use PayScale and Indeed for what a typical analyst earns, and Levels.fyi for what the top employers pay.
Is data analyst a good career in India in 2026?
On pay, yes, with a slow start. The typical analyst earns about ₹6 lakh, the senior title is worth about 63% more at the same experience, and the routes into data science, data engineering and analytics management roughly double pay again. The AIM Research salary study for 2024 put the median for all data and analytics professionals in India at ₹15.1 lakh, down 1% on the year before.
On demand, the 2026 signals are positive but uneven. Naukri's JobSpeak index rose 8% across FY 2025-26, its strongest year in three, with AI and machine learning roles up 45% and freshers up 16%. Banking and financial services hiring fell 6% in March 2026, though those employers still pay data analysts the most. The entry-level market is crowded, so the analysts who move fastest are those who add Python and a domain early and are willing to switch employers for the senior title.
How to increase your data analyst salary
- Go after the Senior title, not just more years. At one to four years, PayScale shows ₹9.3 lakh for Senior Data Analysts against ₹5.7 lakh for Data Analysts. If your current employer will not promote you, the title is often easier to win in a move.
- Move from IT services to a product company, bank or Big Four firm. Entry grades at the large services firms sit at ₹4.4 lakh to ₹6.3 lakh. Deloitte and KPMG medians are ₹8 lakh to ₹10 lakh, and Google, American Express and JPMorgan medians are above ₹22 lakh.
- Add Python and one cloud data platform. That is the skill gap between data analyst pay and data engineer or data scientist pay, worth 42% to 76% at one to four years.
- Pick a domain. Finance, risk, e-commerce and product analytics are where the highest-paying employers in the tables above hire.
- Negotiate on in-hand pay, not CTC. Ask how much of the CTC is employer PF, gratuity and variable pay. Two ₹8 lakh offers can differ by several thousand rupees a month in hand.
- Consider Bengaluru or NCR. On Indeed, Bengaluru's average is about 24% above the national figure.
Does a data analyst course pay for itself?
Most live, job-oriented data analyst courses of about six months cost ₹50,000 to ₹90,000, as our comparison of 21 data analyst course fees found. Free and low-cost routes exist too: the Google Data Analytics Certificate costs about ₹11,300 on Coursera if you finish in six months. Against a fresher's in-hand pay of about ₹29,100 a month on a ₹4 lakh CTC, a ₹70,000 course costs about two and a half months of salary (our arithmetic). It pays off only if it actually gets you the job, so judge a course by its projects, its SQL and Python practice, and its verified placement record, not its certificate.
Compare data analytics programmes by format, duration and fee in the full course listing, or browse all institutes side by side. Our list of the top data science institutes in India covers the step after analytics. If an institute offers to take its fee from your first salary instead, our guide to pay-after-placement plans shows what you would repay at each salary band. Before paying anyone, check the hidden costs on top of the course fee.
Sources and how we checked
All figures were read on 29 October 2026 from the source's own page. We did not use figures we could only find quoted on third-party sites.
