Masai School is a Bengaluru-based online bootcamp best known for its Pay After Placement model: you pay ₹0 upfront, and owe ₹2.5 lakh to ₹4.5 lakh only after you land a job paying ₹3.5 LPA or more. Its flagship Software Development course runs 30 to 35 weeks, full time and live online. Masai reports a 94% placement rate and an average alumni salary of ₹6.1 to ₹6.9 LPA, with a highest package of ₹36 LPA. Since 2023 it has also sold prepaid certification programs with IIT Patna, IIT Roorkee, IIM Trichy and BITS, which have nothing to do with the pay-later model.

This review covers both halves of Masai: what the bootcamp actually costs once you are placed, how the agreement works, what the placement numbers do and do not say, what the daily schedule is like, and who should and should not sign up.

Masai School courses: two very different products

Most confusion about Masai comes from mixing up its two product lines.

1. Pay After Placement bootcamps

This is the original Masai. The Software Development course teaches full stack web development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, Node.js, databases) with GenAI tooling layered in, over 30 to 35 weeks. It is live online and full time, built for beginners, non-tech graduates and career switchers. Masai's fee page also lists a Digital Marketing track under the same model. You enter through MSAT, an entrance test that checks aptitude and basic logic rather than coding.

Graduates on Course Report describe the schedule as "9-9-6": classes and work from 9 am to 9 pm, six days a week. Several compare it to military-style training. That intensity is the point, and it is also the first reason people drop out.

2. Prepaid certification programs with IITs and IIMs

From late 2023, Masai started selling upfront-paid programs through institutional partners. The current homepage lists, among others:

  • Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, with Vishlesan i-Hub, IIT Patna (8 months, online)
  • AI and ML Certification Program, with E&ICT Academy, IIT Roorkee (6 months, online)
  • Certification Program in Data Analytics with AI and Gen AI, with E&ICT Academy, IIT Roorkee (6 months, online)
  • Product Management in the Agentic AI Era, with IIM Trichy (6 months, online)
  • Future-Ready Product Management with Applied AI, with iHUB DivyaSampark, IIT Roorkee (6 months, online)
  • Certification Program in Business Analytics with Gen and Agentic AI, with BITS School of Management (6 months, online)

These are paid upfront or on EMI. Published prices start around ₹26,000 plus GST for the entry-level AI and ML program and go past ₹60,000 for the longer programs, according to Inc42 and Fueler. They are part time, aimed at working professionals, and do not carry the Pay After Placement terms or the placement figures discussed below.

There is no separate "Masai School of Business." The management and product programs are the IIM Trichy and BITS School of Management partnerships listed above.

Masai also runs short cohorts under the "Leap" label: a 10-week AI Forward Deployed Engineer cohort for people who already code, a 6-week AI Residency, and a 6-week Founders Cohort.

Masai School fees: what Pay After Placement actually costs

"Pay After Placement" does not mean free. It means the price is decided by your salary after the course. Here is Masai's current fee table from its official fee page.

Your CTC after the course Total you pay Monthly payment
No job within 1 year, or below ₹3.5 LPA ₹0 None
₹3.5 to ₹4.99 LPA ₹2,50,000 ₹6,944 x 36 months
₹5 to ₹9.99 LPA ₹3,50,000 ₹9,722 x 36 months
₹10 LPA and above ₹4,50,000 ₹15,000 x 30 months

Key takeaway: Masai's own reported average salary is ₹6.1 to ₹6.9 LPA. That puts the typical graduate in the ₹3.5 lakh slab, which is only ₹49,000 less than Scaler Academy's ₹3,99,000 upfront fee. What you are really buying is the ₹0 downside if it does not work out, not a cheaper course.

The agreement terms that matter

  • CTC is counted broadly. Variable pay and ESOPs count toward the slab, not just fixed salary. A ₹4.8 LPA fixed offer with ₹0.4 LPA variable lands you in the ₹3.5 lakh slab, not the ₹2.5 lakh one.
  • One-year clause. If you get no qualifying offer within one year of completing the course, you owe nothing.
  • Pause. If you stop working or your income drops below the threshold, payments pause.
  • You must accept qualifying offers. If you opt into Masai's placement process and receive an offer above the threshold, the agreement requires you to take it.
  • Placement eligibility is gated. You only enter the placement pool after completing the course and clearing the Final Evaluation Test.
  • Drop-out and conduct clauses apply. Leaving mid-course or breaching the code of conduct can trigger charges. Read these sections before signing.
  • It is a contract, not a loan. No interest, no collateral, no credit check, but it is legally binding.

We walk through how this model compares across institutes in our guide to pay after placement coding bootcamps.

Masai School placements: reading the numbers properly

Masai's placement page reports a 94% placement rate, ₹6.9 LPA average alumni salary, ₹36 LPA highest package and 4,000+ hiring partners. Its application page and press coverage cite ₹6.1 LPA average CTC, 7,500+ learners placed and 5,000+ hiring partners. Its homepage says 10,000+ graduates placed.

Four things to keep in mind:

  1. The figures are self-reported and undated. Masai does not publish an audited placement report or say which cohorts or years the 94% covers.
  2. The base is probably completers who cleared the Final Evaluation Test, not everyone who enrolled. Dropouts from the 9-9-6 schedule are unlikely to be in the denominator.
  3. The average is modest. ₹6.1 to ₹6.9 LPA is a solid first tech salary for a non-tech graduate, and far below the ₹24 LPA average Scaler reports for its experienced-professional cohorts. The two schools serve different people, which we cover in Scaler Academy vs Masai School.
  4. ₹36 LPA is an outlier. It is the highest package, not something to plan around.

Masai's own FAQ states: "We do not guarantee a job after the course."

Who Masai School is for

Choose Masai if you

  • Are a fresher, a non-CS graduate or a career switcher with no coding background
  • Cannot pay ₹1 lakh or more upfront and do not want a loan
  • Can commit to a full-time, six-day-a-week schedule for 7 to 8 months
  • Would be happy with a first tech job in the ₹4 to ₹8 LPA range as a starting point

Skip Masai if you

  • Already work in tech and want to move into product companies. The curriculum and placement network are built for entry-level roles. Look at Scaler or similar instead.
  • Need to keep a job while studying. The PAP bootcamp is full time.
  • Expect to pay less overall. If you are placed above ₹5 LPA, you pay ₹3.5 lakh, which is close to a premium upfront bootcamp.
  • Are not sure you can finish. Drop-out clauses apply, and the schedule is the most common complaint.

Masai vs the alternatives

Bootcamp Fee model Total cost Built for
Masai School Pay After Placement, ₹3.5 LPA threshold, 30 to 36 month tenure ₹0 to ₹4,50,000 by CTC Freshers and career switchers, full time
AccioJob Pay After Placement (limited seats), ₹3 LPA threshold, 24 month tenure; ₹75,000 upfront plan otherwise ₹0 to ₹4,00,000 by CTC Freshers targeting service and product companies
Scaler Academy Upfront or EMI, payable regardless of placement ₹3,99,000 Working professionals with 1 to 8 years of experience
AlmaBetter Upfront, EMI available ₹75,000 to ₹1,00,000 Freshers and early professionals, part time

AccioJob is Masai's closest rival on both model and audience. It has a lower threshold (₹3 LPA) and a shorter tenure (24 months), but limited PAP seats and a higher top slab. Is Masai School worth it?

For the right person, yes, with eyes open.

The honest case for Masai: it is one of the few programs in India where a non-tech graduate with no savings can get structured, full-time training and a shot at a software job without taking on debt. The ₹0-if-no-job clause is real, the ₹3.5 LPA threshold is reasonable, and the independent reviews on Course Report are strongly positive about teaching quality and project work.

The honest case against: once placed, you will likely pay ₹2.5 lakh to ₹3.5 lakh over three years for a job that starts at ₹4 to ₹7 LPA. That is a meaningful chunk of early-career income. The schedule is punishing, the placement numbers are not audited and differ from page to page, and the agreement binds you to accept qualifying offers. None of these are deal-breakers, but all of them should be understood before you sign.

If you are a fresher weighing Masai against paying ₹4 lakh upfront elsewhere, Masai's risk profile is far better. If you are a working engineer, it is the wrong product. If you are considering Masai's IIT or IIM certification programs, judge them as you would any paid online certificate, because the Pay After Placement story does not apply to them.
